What 'Frame-Off Restoration' Actually Means, and Why This '86 Toyota Is Worth a Close Look

Body off, frame stripped, three-stage paint, new interior. Here's what each part of the job covered on the 1986 Toyota OVRLND is giving away.

"Restored" can describe a lot of different jobs. A frame-off restoration is a specific one. The body is lifted off the chassis, which opens up the frame and everything underneath so it can be cleaned, fixed and refinished.

OVRLND's current giveaway truck, a 1986 Toyota Pickup XtraCab SR5 4WD, went through exactly that. Below, each part of the job is matched to what the giveaway page says was done.

The frameTaking the body off

The defining move is separation. On this Toyota, the body was removed from the chassis. With nothing sitting on top of it, the frame was stripped and refinished from end to end, not just touched up where it shows.

UnderneathUndercarriage and hardware

The parts you only see from under the truck got attention too. The giveaway page says the undercarriage was extensively refinished and the chassis hardware was renewed.

The paintThree stages of Factory White

The exterior was repainted in three stages, finished in Factory White. The bed has a color-matched spray-in bedliner, so it matches the body color.

The cabInside, everything you touch

On this truck, the cab was redone as well. The restored brown and tan interior has new factory-style seat upholstery, new carpeting, a new headliner and a restored dashboard and interior trim.

Left in placeServiced, not replaced

Not everything was swapped for new. The truck keeps its original fuel-injected 22R-E, and the giveaway page says the original engine was thoroughly serviced. The powertrain, with its automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, was serviced as well. Factory air conditioning and factory power steering stay.

Added on topThe parts that aren't restoration

Some of the list goes beyond putting the truck back together. A roll bar, off-road lighting, desert-racing-inspired graphics and gloss-black powder-coated bumpers were part of the build. So were black-and-chrome wheels with 31-inch Mickey Thompson tires and an Apple CarPlay head unit. The ride height stays factory stock-style.

What it doesn't changeRestored, but still awarded as is

A restoration describes the work that was done. It is not a guarantee, and the Official Rules say so directly. The prize vehicle is awarded "AS IS," without any warranty from the Sponsor about its quality, mechanical condition or fitness for a particular purpose. The rules also note that it may not meet safety or emissions testing required in some states, and the winner is responsible for checking those requirements before accepting the prize.

The rest of the prizeA pit bike and cash

The same Grand Prize includes a Buscadero BSX 140 pit bike and a $15,000 cash award, for an approximate retail value of $94,000.

Common questions

What does "frame-off" mean on this truck?

The body was taken off the chassis so the frame could be stripped and refinished from end to end. The undercarriage and chassis hardware were done at the same stage.

Was the engine rebuilt?

The giveaway page says the original 22R-E was thoroughly serviced and the powertrain was serviced. It does not describe a rebuild.

Does a restoration mean it passes inspection?

No guarantee is made. The Official Rules say the vehicle is awarded "AS IS" and may not meet safety or emissions testing in some states. Registration and licensing costs fall to the winner.

How do I enter by mail?

Follow the mail-in steps in the Official Rules. Cards must be postmarked by December 3, 2026 and arrive by December 8, 2026, and each card received is worth 100 entries.

Who conducts the drawing?

The Administrator, American Sweepstakes & Promotion Co., Inc., selects the potential winner in a random drawing on or about December 9, 2026.
