This '80s Toyota Pickup Was Restored From the Frame Up. Here's What's Original and What's New.

A frame-off restored 1986 Toyota Pickup XtraCab SR5 4WD keeps its factory core and adds a few modern touches. Entries close December 3.

Factory White, freshly repainted. Stripes in red, orange and yellow. A Toyota pickup with four-wheel drive and a 22R-E under the hood. If the mid-'80s mean anything to you, this shape will ring a bell.

The truck on this page is a 1986 Toyota Pickup XtraCab SR5 4WD, and OVRLND is giving it away after a frame-off restoration. What makes it interesting is the split. Part of the spec list is still what left the factory. Part of it is new. Here is how the two halves line up.

Still 1986The engine it came with

The giveaway page is clear on this point: it is the original fuel-injected 22R-E, and that original engine was thoroughly serviced rather than swapped out. It still runs an automatic transmission and four-wheel drive, and the powertrain got a service of its own.

Still 1986Factory features that were kept

Several items on the list carry the word factory. The truck keeps its factory air conditioning and factory power steering. The paint is Factory White. The ride height is described as factory stock-style.

Made new againA body lifted off its frame

The restoration started at the bottom. With the body lifted off, the bare frame was stripped and refinished over its full length. The underside of the truck was extensively refinished, the chassis got renewed hardware, and the exterior then went through a three-stage repaint.

Made new againA brown and tan cab

Inside, the brown and tan cab was restored. The seats were reupholstered in a factory style, the carpet and headliner are new, and the dash and trim were brought back. The word on the giveaway page is "fully refreshed."

Also on the listPeriod-style details

The rest of the list reads like a build sheet: rally-style graphics inspired by desert racing, a roll bar carrying off-road lights, a color-matched spray-in bedliner and an Apple CarPlay head unit. Together they give the truck the period-style appearance the giveaway page describes.
