7 Details to Look For on This Restored '86 Toyota

From the original 22R-E to the brown and tan cab, seven things to spot on the 1986 Toyota in OVRLND's giveaway.

Lettering, stripes and chrome: details on the 1986 Toyota in OVRLND's giveaway.

At a glance it is a white Toyota pickup with stripes. Look closer and there is a long spec sheet behind it. Here are seven details on the truck itself worth looking for, each one taken from the giveaway page.

Detail 1The original 22R-E

Start under the hood with the engine code. The giveaway page lists the 22R-E as the original fuel-injected engine, thoroughly serviced. Look for the 22R-E badge on the chrome valve cover.

Detail 2XtraCab, SR5 and 4WD

The full name on the giveaway page is 1986 Toyota Pickup XtraCab SR5 4WD. The drive side of that name is backed up by the spec list: four-wheel drive with an automatic transmission and a serviced powertrain.

Detail 3A body-off restoration

This one explains how the truck looks underneath. It is a frame-off job: body off the chassis, frame stripped and refinished, an extensively refinished undercarriage and renewed hardware throughout the chassis.

Detail 4Three-stage Factory White

The paint is Factory White, applied as a three-stage exterior repaint. Check the bed, too: the spray-in bedliner is color-matched to the body.

Detail 5Rally-inspired graphics and lighting

The stripes are desert-racing-inspired graphics. They come with a roll bar, off-road lighting and gloss-black powder-coated bumpers. The giveaway page calls the overall effect a period-style appearance.

Detail 631-inch Mickey Thompson tires

Read the sidewall: 31-inch Mickey Thompson tires, each on a black-and-chrome wheel. The ride height is listed as factory stock-style.

Detail 7A brown and tan cab with CarPlay

Open the door for the last one. The cab is brown and tan, with fresh factory-style upholstery on the seats, new carpet, a new headliner, and a dash and trim that were restored. Add an Apple CarPlay head unit, factory air conditioning and factory power steering.

Beyond the truckThe pit bike in the same prize

The seven details above are all on the Toyota. The pit bike is a separate part of the Grand Prize, a Buscadero BSX 140. Its spec list: a 140cc engine, four-speed manual transmission, manual clutch, electric start, front and rear disc brakes, upgraded suspension, retro-inspired styling and a compact, easy-to-transport design.

The numbersCash award and total value

Rounding out the prize is $15,000 in cash. The rules set the approximate retail value of the whole Grand Prize at $94,000, which is the Sponsor's good-faith estimate. If the actual value turns out lower, the difference is not awarded.

Fine printWhat the rules say about condition

The Official Rules award the truck "AS IS," without warranty from the Sponsor. The winner is responsible for taxes on the prize, for registration and licensing costs, and for all matters relating to the prize after it is awarded.
